The MT includes the divine name YHWH (“Blessed be YHWH, the God of Shem”), whereas the LXX reads “Blessed be the Lord God of Shem,” using “Lord” (Kyrios) as is standard LXX practice for rendering the divine name. The MT also reads “let him dwell” with an ambiguous subject (either God or Japheth), while the LXX clarifies with “let God dwell,” though some LXX manuscripts read “let him dwell” without specifying the subject. The phrase “in the tents of Shem” appears in both traditions. No DSS manuscript witness exists for this verse.

“Blessed be the Lord God of Shem”

The Messianic Lineage:

The phrase “the Lord God of Shem” indicates that the true knowledge and worship of God would be preserved through Shem’s descendants.
